Working with Alex and Sarah at In Good Company has been an enlightening experience, shaping not only my professional approach but also my personal authenticity.
Their mentorship went beyond conventional workplace advice, emphasising the importance of staying true to myself while upholding a professional demeanour. A standout lesson was the significance of ensuring my name is pronounced correctly, a small yet impactful reminder of personal identity in any professional setting.
Work and culture
My daily responsibilities echoed Einstein’s wisdom, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.” In the dynamic environment of In Good Company, I embraced diversity in tasks, becoming adept at multitasking and consistently learning to meet the high standards set by In Good Company. Not one day went by when I had the same schedule and this allowed me to be really invested in the work and constantly kept me on top of my feet.
The one thing that I absolutely love about In Good Company is how Sarah and Alex proactively develop a culture where everyone is able to talk about their problems, from work questions to mental health issues. They create a safe environment where everyone can be vulnerable without feeling weak, and they established this by first talking about themselves openly.
They were kind enough to ask me to attend the Toast Brewing Rebrand Launch party which turned out to be really fun as I got to know both of them outside work too! And as an added bonus we all enjoyed the vegan mac and cheese and ethical beer there!! Ultimately, they made sure to foster an inclusive environment where everyone felt welcomed.

Developing a passion for writing
During a conversation with Sarah and Alex about my love for writing, they not just listened to me but heard me when I said I liked writing by assigning me tasks more aligned with my interest—specifically, blogs. This experience has been an enriching journey, teaching me nuances beyond the art of writing as I learnt how to effectively communicate—balancing warmth with formality and adapting language to suit different contexts. Additionally, learning to manage time while writing blogs for a week helped me get better at doing it efficiently without compromising quality.
My work here was not limited to blog writing only, I worked on budget spreads, social media, research, business listings, competitor analysis and many other things. Out of these, the one that interested me the most was competitor analysis because that actually made me aware of the sustainable market and companies that operate similar to In Good Company. It taught me how startups scale up and grow into successful, big businesses.
Hybrid working
My internship was set up in a hybrid model, with 2 days of work from home and on the other 3 days, Sarah, Alex and I worked at Market Peckham and at different cafes that are either listed or are potential businesses that would be listed on In Good Company’s platform. At the end of every week, we had a team meeting where everyone rated their week out of 10 and a “unicorn of the week” (acknowledgment of a team member's exceptional work or a notable accomplishment during that week) was voted upon making it an environment where all small wins were recognised.
Before joining In Good Company, the business side of companies seemed distant and unfamiliar to me. However, working here has made me realise new fields that I might want to explore in the future. All thanks to Sarah and Alex for making this such a memorable first internship.
