I just finished my 7-week internship as a Business Operations Intern at In Good Company. It was an amazing experience, and I learned so much. I wanted to share some of my reflections on the internship and what I learned.

I worked in person at Market in Peckham with the two co-founders Alex Birtles and Sarah Kingston. Alex and Sarah are great bosses and co-founders. They always gave clear directions and helped me out whenever I was confused. My daily routine changed slightly every day. I researched companies that Alex was hoping to partner with, wrote blogs, planned LinkedIn posts, and worked on building a Crowdfunder page. I also researched potential investors and grants to apply for.
Flexibility and willingness to learn
One of the most important things I learned was the importance of being flexible and willing to learn new things. In a startup, everyone is wearing multiple hats, so it's important to be open to trying new things and communicating clearly. Luckily, Alex and Sarah are wonderful bosses and always gave me great instruction and were always open to my clarifying questions.
The importance of communication
I also learned a lot about communicating with clients and building partnerships. I went with Sarah to multiple Good Businesses to conduct interviews and introduce them to the app. I was always impressed with Sarah’s ability to connect with a client and build a strong, lasting relationship. These skills are so important to have no matter what industry you work in and I am so grateful to have had real world experience and learn from great mentors.
The value of good companies
Lastly, I learned so much about sustainability and social impact from my internship. From visiting Good Companies to researching them and writing up on sustainability I have developed a deeper knowledge of how important social enterprises are and how necessary businesses like In Good Company are to maintaining their success.
